In this volume you will find the following entertaining holiday tales: A Christmas Tree, What Christmas is Dickens Christmas Books We Grow Older, The Poor Relation's Story, The Child's Story, The Schoolboy's Story, Nobody's Story, The Seven Poor Travellers, The Holly-Tree, The Wreck of the Golden Mary, The Perils of Certain English Prisoners, Going into Society, The Haunted /5(10).

Wonderful, thought provoking, hard hitting short stories for Christmas. I've always enjoyed Dickens' Christmas Books but these stories written for the Christmas numbers of 'Household Words' and 'All The Year Round' lift the bar on social commentary to a new height/5(6).

Despite his lack of formal education, he edited a weekly journal for 20 years, wrote 15 novels, five novellas, hundreds of short stories and non-fiction articles, lectured and performed extensively, was an indefatigable letter writer and campaigned vigorously for children's rights, education and other social by: 4.

These short stories were boring and lacked the character development one grows to expect from Dickens. The stories are also not very Christmasy. The Christmas Tree is a fun idea. It would be fun to craft a story around the ornaments and decorations on my own tree.

The concept was much more interesting than the execution of the written story.3/5. Then he shifted to annual Christmas editions of his journals, first Household Words and then All the Year Round. These issues would generally have a framing story by Dickens, several stories that fit the frame by the co-authors he selected with one or two by Dickens himself, and then a concluding story by Dickens/5.

Book 1 of Charles Dickens' The Christmas Books is composed of two beautiful classic stories or short novels: A Christmas Carol () and The Chimes (). They are old, old works but their messages still sound true even up to now.

Also, they are still very readable/5(55). Christmas Books is a bind up of all five Christmas novels (A Christmas Carol, The Chimes, The Cricket on the Hearth, The Battle of Life, and The Haunted Man and the Ghost's Bargain) written by Charles Dickens.4/5().

A Vintage Christmas includes stories from Louisa May Alcott, Charles Dickens, Ralph Henry Barbour, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mark Twain, L. Montgomery, and William Dean Howells, as well as poems from Eliza Cook, Christina Rossetti, William Makepeace Thackeray, Joyce Kilmer, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Samuel Taylor s: The Five Christmas Books and stories published in periodicals.
